Summary

– The state crafts museum, is a centre which showcases the Odisha’s rich culture & its artistic handicrafts & handloom.
– Organically developed in a linear pattern around the thematic courtyards & existing vegetation of the area.
– Vernacular architecture of Odisha is the essence of this project.
– Glimpses of features of variant villages in Odisha like verandahs all around, thematic courtyards, presence of water body, entrance elements like tulsi chauras, devi sthal, etc.
– The entrance depicts the arrival into a village establishment, anchores by large trees with presence of tulsi chauras, mud walls & presence of grama devi.
– The handloom & handicraft sections are segregated into different blocks yet interconnected with a scenic transition space.
– An arcade with a congregation court on one side & stepped waterbody or kund on the other side forms the transition link between the handicraft section to the handloom section.
– The stepped water body or kund symbolizes a temple ghat. A waterbody always plays an integral part of village activities.
– The childrens’ Play area has various infamous games played in Odisha with lifesize boards.
– A Huge open air theatre is placed strategically on the main pedestrian spine of the site. The OAT gives a breath-taking view of the site, especially the open field, cafeteria & workshop area.
– The workshop block also consists of a handicraft section & handloom section connected by a courtyard in between.
– As the visitors move towards the exit they can see the painted walls with verandahs for open displays, carved stone walls and small congregation areas.
– Locally available materials like fly ash bricks, laterite stones, etc, were used for the project. Pan tiles were sourced from the tribal settlements.
– Landscape plays a crucial role in development and of the entire plan.
